FADE OR DRAW THE BALL
Let’s define 3 directions where the ball can go as shown in the image above.
1) Straight
2) From right to left (Draw)
3) From left to right (Fade)
If you are not in the middle of the fairway every time you play golf, you will encounter obstacles such as trees, ponds, or streams. For this reason, you should be able to understand how to protect yourself from entering these hazards or simply go around them to reach your target, as shown in the images above.
How to draw the ball:
Have fun trying this technique.
Remember: Your swing remains the same. The only elements that changes are the following:
Step 1: Feet position
Step 2: Club position
Step 3: Place your hands on the club after steps 1 and 2 are completed.
See the explanation in the image below:
DRAW THE BALL IN 3 STEPS
Step 1. Position your feet as if you were hitting a straight shot indicated by the two black lines in the image above. Your feet and body are pointing at the right of your target.
Step 2. Position the two vertical lines of your clubface towards the area you want the ball to land, as shown in the image above.
Step 3. Place your hands on the club.
PLEASE NOTE: Steps 1 and 2 must be completed before step 3.
Your hands should be positioned as if you were hitting a straight shot. The only thing different is that your clubhead is pointing slightly left. In other words, you will be positioned in a CLOSED STANCE, as shown in the image above.
TWO VERTICAL LINES ON THE CLUBFACE
VERY IMPORTANT
From this position, swing your club like you were hitting a straight shot. Make sure your swinging towards the direction your feet are pointing and not towards the target. This will cause sidespin on the ball from right to left. The ball should have a direction from right to left also named a DRAW, as shown in the images above.
DISTANCE & ROLL:
WHEN DRAWING THE BALL, distance and rolls will be affected. The ball will land with LOTS of rolls. Practice this shot. I would recommend taking LESS club when trying to draw. (Example: instead of the #7 iron, use the #8 iron.
